One of the things we’ve learned how to do during the recession is make do with what you’ve got.
I didn’t grow up in a rich family. We got by, we were the definition of middle class. There were times when I was a kid that we didn’t have money for the grocery store so my Mom and Dad rummaged the cupboards and we had whatever was in the pantry.
For breakfast that often ended up being what we in my family call PoorMan Pancakes.
No it’s not french toast, that requires eggs. Nope, this is nothing more than buttered toast with maple syrup, or any kind of syrup really. Whatever your personal favorite flavor maybe.
We have always had a toaster oven instead of a toaster. My Dad never liked the standard toasters. But if you don’t have a toaster oven, an oven will do.
- Two pieces of your favorite bread
- Butter or margarine
- Your favorite syrup
Butter the bread and place it in the toaster oven, toast it to your favorite color.
If you don’t have a toaster oven, pre-heat the oven to 350ºF. Place your buttered bread on a cookie sheet and cook it for 5min, 6 if you like your toast darker.
Cut the slices into 3 rows, turn it sideways and cut again so you have 9cubes.
Place on a plate, add the desired amount of syrup and server.
