Food is one of those things that we need to sustain our health. There can’t be hard work without fun and there can’t be a healthy, happy life without enjoying foods that we love. They help us create memories, and recall those memories of times gone by with family or friends that may no longer be with us.

Food provides a purpose of gathering for family and friends. A celebration of events, a way of comforting tears and emotions. A needed substance to help the body and mind grow. A method of exploration of new things, new cultures and unusual flavors.

I love to cook. I love the cooking with my Man and teaching my son how to fix his favorite things to eat. When you share what you’ve learned, you are sharing more than steps and recipes. You’re sharing a family history and heritage. And creating new memories for your generations to come.

Here I share some of own recipes, as well as recipes I’ve discovered online over the years. Along with a few stories of family, friends, discoveries and adventures. For now, here’s what I’ve added to my section dedicated to food!  And since a lot of families are really hurting in these tough financial times, I decided to share our PoorMan Pantry recipes. I hope it helps your kids go to bed with something in their tummies instead of hunger pains. More about the PoorMan Pantry.

  1. This Apple Cream Cheese Bundt Cake has a double entry of 2 tsp. cinnamon. Is there a reason for this or is this a typo? If it were in two different parts I wouldn’t have a problem but twice its listed for the batter. In reading through the recipe I can’t see a reason for the two different inclusions of it but I want to check first. Every so often I’m surprised by something. It doesn’t help that the recipe just states, combine all dry ingredients. Well that doesn’t tell me squat when it comes to it being there twice. Help, is this an error? thanks

    • Hello Pamela,
Sorry about that, you are correct, the directions left out the step for the 2nd splash of cinnamon. I had to go back to the original recipe from my Aunt Betty. In the margin, she had written: add the 2nd cinnamon to the apple and nut bag. So when you’re cutting the apples, after you’ve toasted the nuts, you put both into the ziplock bag and add the 2nd splash of cinnamon to coat everything together.
